About Me

I am a 23-year-old student studying for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and a minor in Philosophy at the University of the Fraser Valley. My parents immigrated to Canada in the early 90s from Mexico, making me a first-generation Canadian citizen. Being born in this country has allowed me many wonderful opportunities and I am very grateful.

Throughout my education history, I fell in love with English, literature, creative writing, and composition in my late high school years. Through my A.P. English Literature & Composition 12 course at G.W. Graham, I realized I wanted to pursue a university education in English studies. My high school teacher inspired so many young lives to become the best version they can be. She has been my role model ever since my grade 12 course and I have since decided for my Bachelor of Arts at UFV that I would major in English. I have polished skills in critical analysis, close reading, different writing styles, copywriting & editing, and the ability to separate fact from opinion. I now have extensive knowledge of Canadian, American, global, renaissance, and 700-1900 British literature, early modern English drama and Shakespeare, and creative writing in poetry, fantasy and non-fiction/journalism.

Philosophy, on the other hand, has been something that I've grown to enjoy in my free time. I would watch countless videos on philosophical theories and ideologies, converse with teachers and enlighten others on things I've learned in my spare time. So, I've pursued a minor in philosophy. It has taught me critical thinking, close reading, clear writing, and logical analysis in thought and language. As a seasoned philosophy student, I know topics in knowledge, reality, morality, ethics, politics, Indigenous philosophy, metaphysics, meta-ethics, normative ethics, hedonism, consequentialism, deontology, virtue ethics, empiricism, the verification principle, ethics of care, ecofeminism, naturalism, realism, relativism, idealism, logic, pragmatism, and analytic philosophy.

After working as the Young Authors' Conference Assistant in winter 2022, I knew I loved event planning, content writing and assisting in operations in a literature context. After leaving my regular serving job, I expected to pursue my final year of university as a full-time student. It was only until the Artistic Director for the Fraser Valley Writers Festival 2023 reached out to me because the Head of the English department at the University of the Fraser Valley mentioned my name in high esteem as someone who might be interested in this practicum position. Of course, I had to accept. So, you'll be able to find everything I've learned, my wonderful superiors as references, as well as all my accomplishments and feedback for the wonderful opportunity I was given here. Be sure to check out the tabs within 'Practicum 2023' on the top header of this website.
