University of the Fraser Valley

Panel 1: Accept
The first panel of the Fraser Valley Writers Festival started at 3PM on November 4th. It was held in B101 on the Abbotsford Campus. While I don't have much content about the actual topics being discussed (as I was running around doing other things for the festival, and we lost our footage), I did manage to get some pictures of the authors and a bit of the panel!
Panel 1: Accept, had Frances Peck as our chair (who you will see more of in Panel 2), and our four panelists were:
-
Russell Thornton, Governor General’s Award and Griffin Prize finalist (The White Light of Tomorrow)
-
Brandon Reid, debut Heiltsuk First Nation novelist (Beautiful Beautiful)
-
Bradley Peters, a former UFV student, poet and actor from Mission B.C. (Sonnets from a Cell)
-
Ali Blythe, two-time Dorothy Livesay Prize finalist (Stedfast)
First Panel Discussion
Authors were asked to come up with a short original piece for the festival about the topic, 'Accept'. There was no concrete description for what this entails; it was all up to interpretation by the athours whether that was when you accepted your fate as a writer, accepting a new reality in the world, or a story of their first work being accepted, etc. The panel was to show the way the authors interpreted acceptance.
