Project Samples
Here you will find a collection of some of the projects I've completed as the Social Media & Operations Manager for the Fraser Valley Writers Festival!

This is page 10/10 of the supplemental author document I created. Pictured above is Brandon Reid's page, which includes his name, picture, times he appeared at the festival, small biography, title of his novel, description of novel, short Q & A and our logo. This document was created with the intended purpose to forward to media outlets as a follow up to our media press releases should someone be interested in interviewing one of our authors, or to have extended information if they were interested in learning more for potential coverage.

This is the first page of our original press release. In September, we sent out the press release with the title "Fraser Valley Writers Festival Announces 2023 Lineup!", but we updated it as we got closer to the festival day, but the content of the press release remained the same. We got this press release sent and published (or had coverage provided in some form) out to Black media newspapers such as, the Chilliwack Progress, Abbotsford News, Agassiz-Harrison Observer, Hope Standard, Mission City Record, North by Northwest CBC Radio, the Early Edition CBC Radio, CIVL Radio, The Fraser Valley Current, Miss 604, Georgia Strait, and UFV Alumni/UFV Today pages.

This is the first page of the second media press release that I created. This is more of an article to send out to black media newspapers (Chilliwack Progress, Abbotsford News, Agassiz-Harrison Observer, Hope Standard, Mission City Record) to gain more traction for one of our local authors attending the festival who was actually a UFV Alumni. We just wanted to make sure we had multiple ways to get the media to spread the word about our festival, especially leading up to the event. The first press release was late September, the updated press release was within a week, and this article with a take on Bradley Peters was also within a week of the festival.

Social Media Content

Here is a small sample of some of the social media posts I curated when I did the introduction campaign. For each author, I gave them their own post. It started with their name, photo and when they would appear at the festival. The second post of theirs was a picture of their book, the title of their book along with a description of the book. The last page of their introduction post was either an excerpt of their book, a short Q & A, or a combination of both. All of this information is found on the Supplemental Author Document. The only difference is that I formatted it in a creative and visually engaging way!
The ones you see pictured here make up about 30% of all the posts I created. To see our social media pages and to browse through the profiles, they will be linked at the very bottom of the page.

Giveaways & Campaigns

Here are some examples of the giveaways and campaigns I did throughout my practicum. To make these happen, I had to email the publishers and request some donated copies of the books from the authors attending the Fraser Valley Writers Festival. We had two rounds of 'guess the book title by the emojis', and another giveaway just to gain traction by having people follow our platforms, like and sharing the post and tagging their friends for extra entries. Overall, we had 6 winners throughout the practicum who each got to take home a piece of the festival.

On top of the media press releases and articles, I also did another personalized article for a couple of the authors attending the Fraser Valley Writers Festival. We asked some of our authors to expand on their experience of attending their first literary festival. Or, for those who have never attended one before, to talk about attending their first one with us! It was a very enlightening process, and I feel honoured to have worked with all of the authors.
We interviewed Tara Sidhoo Fraser (When My Ghost Sings), Brandon Reid (Beautiful Beautiful), Frances Peck (Uncontrolled Flight), and Darrel J. McLeod (A Season in Chezgh'un), on their experience with literary festivals. To check out the article, please visit the Read Local BC post linked on the title of this box.
